Gauguin, The alchemist, The Grand Palais

From 11 october 2017 to 02 january 2019

Gauguain Grand Palais - Hotel Elysées Mermoz

Gauguin, The alchemist is coming to the Grand Palais from 11 October to 22 January 2018

Grand Palais, Galeries Nationales

This exhibition brings together the works of Paul Gauguin (1848-1903), showcasing the artist's unusual creative process. Gauguin can be seen as a modern-day alchemist, following an experimentation-based approach that was governed by an intimate relationship with his materials.

Dedicating himself to this endless quest, in 1899 he wrote: "With a little mud you can make metal, precious stones, with a little mud and a little genius! Is it not an interesting material?"

Join us in the very heart of this retrospective and feel yourself transformed by the themes and rhythms of the paintings, sculptures, etchings and drawings of Paul Gauguin.

We recommend booking tickets for your visit to the Grand Palais in advance from the website, and taking advantage of their late-night opening hours. This exhibition is also very suitable for both children and teenagers.

It's also worth taking the time to walk under Europe's largest glass roof, and to admire all the architectural details of this building, built for the Exposition Universelle (world's fair) in 1900.

After leaving the exhibition and browsing the Grand Palais shop, we recommend a visit to the Petit Palais, which is also located close to the Hotel Elysées Mermoz, and an opportunity to take beautiful photos of Paris from the Pont Alexandre III, situated to the right of the Grand Palais.

We highly recommend this exhibition at the Grand Palais Paris, located 7 minutes' walk from the Hotel Elysées Mermoz.

After a day or evening spent visiting, walking, and taking photos, it's time to return to your 4-star hotel, just a stone's throw from the Champs-Elysées: the Hotel Elysées Mermoz.
