Irving Penn at the Grand Palais, 21 September to 29 January 2018

From 21 september 2017 to 01 january 2019

Irving Peen Grand Palais Hotel Elysées Mermoz

Irving Penn is coming to the Grand Palais from 21 September to 29 January 2018

Grand Palais, Galeries Nationales,

In partnership with The Irving Penn Foundation and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Grand Palais presents a retrospective of the work of Irving Penn. Irving Penn, a talented photographer, best known for his portraits of figures from the world of film and entertainment, classified photography as one of the major arts. Meticulous, precise and creative, he worked like an expert craftsman.

This exhibition showcases the two different sides to the artist: the photographer for Vogue and the explorer, a genuine, down-to-earth man. It should therefore come as no surprise to find his portraits of Picasso, Audrey Hepburn and Alfred Hitchcock hanging next to snapshots of tribal figures from New Guinea.

The Grand Palais is one of the most popular places to visit in Paris, not only because of its world-famous exhibitions and cultural events, but also the building itself. The Grand Palais was built for the 1900 Exposition Universelle (world's fair) and is situated opposite the Petit Palais, another masterpiece of Parisian architecture. So don't miss a trip to stand beneath the largest glass roof in Europe - that of the Grand Palais. If you want to eat afterwards, you don't have to go far. We warmly recommend the MiniPalais, a restaurant situated in another wing of the Grand Palais. It's a place that's magical whether visited in summer or winter, during the day or at night. Perhaps you'd like to enjoy a drink on the terrace while contemplating the beauty of the Petit Palais and the Pont Alexandre III, or maybe you'd prefer to dine in the cosy atmosphere indoors, by candlelight.

We highly recommend this exhibition, located just 7 minutes' walk from the Hotel Elysées Mermoz and the famous Pont Alexandre III.

After your visit, travel towards the Seine, making sure you have your camera with you to capture one of the most beautiful views in Paris. Pont Alexandre III's sculptures, nymphs, and statues stretch away in front of you, leading to the esplanade and the Hôtel des Invalides (the military museum) in the distance.

We highly recommend this event, located just 7 minutes' walk from the Hôtel Elysées Mermoz.
